Chiropractor, Acupuncture & Graston Technique Provider

dr shima shahidyYou may have experienced back pain or you may be starting a new activity or entering a new phase in life. Its always good to find out the best and safest way to do your tasks. Whether your child is off to school and is buying a new backpack or you're a new mom carrying around a baby and all the supplies, or you're about to head into the garden for some weeding and planting, you will benefit from some tips on how to keep your body healthy.

I have a great resource that I'd like to share with all of you. The Ontario Chiropractic Association has a comprehensive website dedicated to Back Health: http://www.yourback-health.com/. On this site you will find great articles with tips on how to perform your daily activities safely, whether at home, at work or when exercising. You can also find our page on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/yourbackhealth.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have been coming to our clinic and trusting us with your health. I'd also like to thank those of you who have sent your friends and family as this is indeed the greatest compliment. We are blessed to have such wonderful patients who have taken the initiative to take care of themselves and continue to work with us on their health and wellness goals.

Our governing bodies and professional associations are constantly working to ensure that safe and affordable care is available to all those who need it. Insurance coverage is often a barrier for patients when accessing chiropractic, massage and naturopathic services. If you feel that this type of care is important to you and your family, than I encourage you to speak to your HR department and your employer.

What is Reiki?

Calais Irwin, RMT
Registered Massage Therapist

Calais Irwin RMTA brief history:
Reiki is a technique developed by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist in 1922. Before developing Reiki he earned his doctorate of theology at the University of Chicago. In the early 1920’s, Usui did a 21 day practice on Mount Kurama-yama called discipline of prayer and fasting. It is said during this time Usui developed Reiki, which he taught to over 2000 people before his death in 1926.

So what is Reiki?
The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words, Rei which means spirit, miraculous, divine and Ki (Chinese Qi, pronounced Chi) which means spiritual energy or life force. Reiki is the practice of using the “life force energy” that flows, unseen, through all of us to decrease stress, increase relaxation and promote healing. When your “life force energy” is depleted you are more likely to become ill or feel more stress.

How does it work?
Reiki isn’t taught in the usual sense of sitting in a classroom and having information taught by a teacher to a student. Rather it is passed from Master to student during an “attunement”, which then allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of “life force energy”. The student may then use that energy to improve the health of themselves or others by focusing that energy through their bodies and into the subject they are working on.

What does a treatment entail?
At Wellness For The Body, your treatment is done in one of our Massage Therapy Rooms. We begin the treatment with you laying face up on the treatment table. The lights are dimmed and soft music is played to promote relaxation. Generally the practitioner will focus over the bodies 7 chakra points, starting at the head, but Reiki can be used on any part of the body. The Reiki practitioner may lay their hands directly on the body, hover just above the body, or alternate between direct contact and hovering. The goal of the treatment is to leave you feeling completely relaxed with a sense of peace and well being.
